Illinois UX Career Fair

SCD is re-imagining the career fair experience at the Illinois UX Career Fair this Fall!
The first of its kind, this career fair is open to students from all disciplines who are interested in learning more about career opportunities in User Experience. In its inaugural year in 2022, over 250 students, representing all colleges at Illinois, attended the career fair that was held in conjunction with the iSchool’s career fair.
In typical SCD fashion, we’re using our insights from running the pilot fair in 2022 to re-design the career fair experience! We aim to create a more genuine connection between employers and potential recruits plus reduce the stress of attending the career fair (for both students and employers!)

The structure: a "Main Stage" featuring micro-workshops, topical discussions, entertainment, games, fashion shows, and more surrounded by conversation pods and lounges designed to feel more intimate and engaging for both employer and student participants.

For Students

A re-imagination of the career fair experience is being brought to you by SCD this Fall. Gone are the days of stressing about your future career and what you might encounter at a career fair (such as waiting in a long line to talk to a company representative, only to find out they aren’t hiring for roles you are interested in!). Come as you are (sweatpants allowed), wherever you are in your journey, and prepare yourself for a career in user experience at the Illinois UX Career Fair.

Are you ready to:

  1. Explore: learn more about the landscape of the user experience industry, what roles and internships employers typically hire for, and what skills you might need to fill those roles. Practice attending a career fair and get used to the environment.
  2. Scout: look for a potential employer whose mission and culture matches your personal values, connect with UX professionals in the field to learn about their day-to-day work life, connect with a mentor at a specific employer to guide you through the recruitment process and find ways to stand out in an internship.
  3. Engage: find an open position at your preferred employer(s) and apply, find out how to design your resume and portfolio to stand out and impress the hiring manager at that employer, demonstrate your talents and experience through a scheduled conversation
If you answered yes to any of the above, then this is the career fair for you! Open to students from all levels and disciplines, come discover YOUR career path in user experience on Sept 1st!

Student registration opens Jul 15, 2023 exclusively on Handshake
